I drive an extra 5 minutes to work via the backroads, where I can relax, open the windows etc. As for saving time, on a long trip, it saves a lot of time. I made it from San Jose to Salt Lake City in a day. 768 miles. At 65 that's 11 hours 50 minutes with no stops. Since we drove 101 MPH for over half of it we did it in 8 hours 30 minutes (average 90).
