Just mho. I cannot see the 4 team playoff lasting too long. There will be more money in a 8 or 12 or 16 team playoff. It will become like the NCAA BB tourney, albeit smaller in number of teams, but larger in revenue. I can see 3-4 weeks of playoff during the winter intercession, when there are no classes (not that they really care). Plus, they can sell selection Sunday! You pay for appearances and wins. The big 4 will likely get 2-3 bids each.

Everyone else can go to a bs bowl game.

Its starting small because this way the B1G/SEC/Pac/Fourth can starve out weaker conferences who may benefit from a larger playoff pool now, and then when the tournament is expanded there will be no competition for the berths.

It's starting small because the bowl bosses are emptying their entertainment budgets to buy hookers and coke for employees in the athletic departments and conference offices, so the major conferences are throwing them a bone. Their is no valid economic reason for a school to play in a bowl game.

Hookers and Coke sounds like a great mixed drink.

Agreed. 8, 12 or 16. My personal suggestion was 12, with the top 4 ranked conference champs getting a bye. So the big dogs still get their bone, and the threat of lawsuits from other conferences are diminished.

round 1 8 teams.
round 2 8 teams
round 3 4 teams
round 4 NCG.

Conference realignment is more complex than just a playoff. Will players be paid in the future? Will the conferences break off from the NCAA and play by their own rules? If the final 4 playoff model includes only conference champs, will the conference championship games become the quarterfinals?

The BCS increased payouts for everyone, but it also allowed teams like Boise St, UConn, Cincy, TCU, Utah, and Louisville to participate. The good old boy conferences, with the exception of the SEC, did not like that on field performance became more important than history.

The BE and ACC presidents should NEVER vote for a 4 team playoff. If they do they are cutting their own throat's. 8 teams with all conf. champions or keep the BCS as it stands now.

Wetzel's article posted on Yahoo Sports from Monday address the stupidity of the BE and the ACC, and singles out Tranghese as one of the stupidest.

that's only true b/c they currently have a monopoly on the CFB postseason. once the playoff happens, we'll probably see a drop off in things like required ticket sales, required hotel rooms, and whatnot. some of the crappier bowls will disappear as a result, but we probably all agree that will be a good thing. right now a bowl appearance is a sign of a .500 season, so they've lost their luster. if the playoff pans out, the new economic environment might mean only the top 15-20 bowls survive and being invited might become meaningful again. if that's the case it could help attendance b/c the competition should be better, and bowl appearances will become more scarce
