Be nice if we were coming out of our playing in Florida funk. USF has been very tough at home and don't even get me started about Miami. Even when we win, well, it's like last Saturday.

Walking on the Clearwater beach the day after we beat Duke in 1999, I was thinking if there would ever be another championship down the road. Florida is where it all began.

Playing at South Florida is usually no fun. On the other hand

For a while, UConn had issues in FL. I remember dropping games to weak U Miami teams in the 1990's and of course this game in Miami in 1994 in the NCAA playoffs, which was my best chance to see a UConn team hit the Final 4 while I was a student in Storrs. Even after '99, Donyell is still a sore subject with me.

In an ironic twist, I actually played him 'for fun' that spring on the courts near Alumni. As a short white guy who can't jump, it was a painful experience as he did not take it easy on me due to the fact that I kicked his tail in Sega football a few weeks earlier (Jets over Eagles) - let him jump to 21 to 0 lead early in the 2dn quarter, won 38 to 28.
