Wowwwww kid has put on some good weight, I really wonder what shape his technique has developed into.
He has packed on almost 50lbs in a year and a half.

I went straight to Peart. That is good news, he could get to 300 before the fall (and of course go back under after 2 a days).

I thought he was underutilized. I feel he is a good talent. A more high powered offense would suit his abilities to run short passing routes and run the ball as multidimensional back. He just looks like an athlete to me and I hate to see him go without more burn. Oh, well.

Marriner had a number of opportunities including early in seasons and games. He received playing time almost every game. He just never showed the spark that would get him more playing time. He was solid. Knew his assignments. But never had that flash that made you think he would make a difference.

I love Newsome, even though I'm a Shelton guy and he's from rival Ansonia. I worry every time he gets a hard hit. It can't be good for him to be losing weight.

182 t0 180 is negligible. And since muscle is more dense than fat, a more revealing number would be the body mass index. He could be stronger and quicker but essentially the same weight. In any case, it's nothing to worry about.

Newsome provides wonderful diversity in his game and he's not bad between the tackles. I think his size is fine. We need a banger and last season RonJon was simply.......awful. I continue to wonder if he was nursing an injury because it seemed he just never committed to get up field.

I think this staff wants a big bruising back to run behind what is becoming a very big OL. We'll see. Maybe this new kid will get those carries.

BMI would NOT be a good indicator. The whole problem with BMI is the fact that muscle weighs more than fat and he would probably be labeled on or close to the obese line. BMI strictly takes into account height, weight and age. Body fat % and or muscle mass percentage tests would be much better.

In addition to what was said above, I am also impressed with some of the folks who shed weight - particularly, Anderson and Blackwell.

The only odd part of report to me was some of the back-up OL actually shedding weight (Hashemi, Schafenacker).

My point is that he is essentially the same weight. So he could be slightly smaller but have lost a little fat and nothing else. That could make him quicker and have just as much muscle.

The Cespedes thing is what caught my eye. I have been told by elite trainers that excess weight gain in short periods, like 20+ pounds in a year, usually isn't a good thing. Their are exceptions, Brian Markowski gained 25 pounds in a year by eating five meals a day of heavy protein He played very well after going from 265 to 290 in a single year. People are individuals and don't always follow the norm. Still, the 12 pounds Peart added would be more in line with building good body mass and strength.

gaining 1-2 lb of muscle per month is solid. If you're 6'5", you could conceivable push the envelope a little, but you better be a workout warrior. So yeah, 25 lb is possible but there is probably a little fat in there too. Nothing wrong with that for the linemen.

The ones that standout to me are Blackwell losing weight (which I'd like to see continue to be honest), Cespedes and Peart putting on some needed weight, and Marshe Terry getting over 2 bills gaining 14 lbs.

We have to see what kind of weight they put on but I think Balis has earned my trust in this area.

Agreed. Love to see Blackwell slimming down. Now, I think it's just a matter of transferring some of that weight into muscle--wouldn't mind seeing him remain at 330 but with a more solid frame. Looks like Terry is getting to a good playing weight to compete at the safety position for this upcoming year. It looks like it may very well be his job to lose.

Pal it will be interesting to see where his weight gain's flatten out. With this most likely being the first time he has had a regimented structured nutrition/supplement program like Diaco and Balis utilize now and a football specific strength training program it is interesting how his body responded. They must also have a target weight for him too.

I was also happy to see RonJon lose a few pounds. He was 217 as a freshman, ballooned to 226 last year and clearly looked like he lost his ability to cut and accelerate.

Marriner is more of a workhorse back, a lot like Newsome.. With the youth at the position, not to mention the coaching change, Diaco blew the whole thing up... Marriner was a recruit from the HCPP regime... Wasn't a fit for a team re-building... I'm sure wherever he ends up he'll produce a lot more.. he's got the talent to do so... I bet he ends up at a place like William & Mary or James Madison, maybe even Richmond, and provides some serious production to that backfield... Wish him all the best...

Blackwell came down only 9 pounds in a year... Do they really want him to lose a lot of weight? I'm suspecting they don't want to see him below 300 at the very least... Keep him at around 310 - 320.. I suspect he'll come in at around Mikal Myers weight come Fall camp... (Myers currently at 325)..
