I am in Stamford tonight for a family party. Just wondering what bar would be best to watch the game tonight.

If I weren't headed to Gample within the hour I would be at Bobby V's myself.

I'd be at the Colony or Vinny's Backyard (up in Springdale). I'll take a thin crust pizza over Bobby V's hideous bar food.

.-.
I don't like the idea of waiting 95 minutes for an over-rated pizza while trying to watch a sporting event in a bar not equipped for it.

Never been to Vinny's. May need to check it out in the near future.

Yeah, Colony isn't for everyone. But you're watching the game so you have time.
I'd put in a plug for Monster B's in Glenbrook too. Very good microbrew selection and last time I was there bartender had one of the more amazing posteriors I've seen in awhile. Plus parking is right there.

What about in New Haven, I'm thinking about checking Archie Moores for the wings, not sure how many tv's they got though.

There was a time when Colony was great. It started going downhill in terms of service in the early-mid 1980's but somehow for those who never knew the place before then, that was part of the mystique. They've changed chef's a couple of times over the past 16-18 years. The pizza is still good and quite unique but it isn't as consistently very good as it once was.

I always viewed Monster B's as a kid's place (never been there myself but my cousins, who are nearly a full generation younger than I am hung out there quite a bit six-seven years ago).

Used to always go there for the best wings. Not as good as they used to be. Porky's in Shelton has the best now. Not trying to start another wing thread.

is it a good place to watch a game? thanks for the wing review, doesn't look like a great place to watch from the pics

Black Bear is good about showing games, and I am sure Annan Liffey's either has it on or would put it on. Prime 16 has two small TV's but great beer. And if you are desperate, Buffalo Wild Wings is downtown.

Yeah, Liffey's upstairs is probably the best bet for combination of screens, food and beer.

Haven't been to the place where Humphrey's used to be, Madden's Gastropub, but have heard good things. I would call to see if they have large screens and if they will be showing it.

A seat at the bar and you'll have a good view of the game. Bigger TVs than Archie's.

I think he's asking about Archie's. He's in New Haven, not Shelton.

Archie's only has small screens behind the bar. Not a great watching experience imo.

Agreed. Too small TVs at Archie's.

Dinosaur is a good place - many TVs, good ribs and a variety of small label beers. Located in South Stamford, across parking lot from Safeway Super market. Canal St. I believe.

Liffey's probably is the best in New Haven. Black Bear isn't terrible, Archies is horrible.

Bobby V's they will play game sound and a lot of uconn fans will be there, and dinosaur BBQ is not a good place to watch games other then having good food

Been going to the Colony since 1979 or so. Bo was still waiting tables with Fitz. They still do that style better thanRikos or Ridgeway or others. But this isn't a pizza thread, so...

Anyway, funny you think Monster B is a kids place and Bobby Vs isn't. I find the opposite. Wherrver you end up, enjoy the game!

Whatever it is they make at Colony, in ain't apizza.

Nope, it ain't. But its a style I like that I can't get in Pgh, so it spreaks of "home" to me, whenever I'min CT. Btw, when in pgh don't try a white clam pizza anywhere :-)

Enjoyed the game as much as I could from Gampel. The atmosphere was great until the ref (Stuart?) decided that he was what everyone paid to see.

Never been to Monster B's, the people I knew who hung out there a few years back were all mid 20's. I merely assumed (I know the error in that) the entire crowd was roughly that age.

Bobby's is a place I'll hit two or three times a year. When I do go I do however see people who hung out there when it opened nearly 35 years ago. I've seen people at Bobby's from early 20' to early 60's with just about every age in between.

Thanks guys I'll check out liffey's next time, went to North Haven for this one BWW, nice place.

Sounded like a near riot was ready to break out a couple of times. I think in some other arenas with some other fans objects would've found their way to the floor.

To me it's a commuter bar. Right next to Glenbrook RR station. I think the "kids" mostly spend time in the pool room in the back, nowhere near the bar. But the bar has been pretty much 30s-50s when I've been. Not a sports bar atmosphere, but I tend to like that environment these days over pitcher-swilling loudmouths (Vinny's Backyard is more the sports bar, however).
