Yeah that Pittsburgh team, hell program, is a mess. You can see why Jamie Dixon jumped ship after a few years in the ACC? He knew his best chances to make a Final Four and/or win it all were in 2002-2006, 2009 (lost on Scottie Reynolds's end to end layup at buzzer in Elite 8), and 2011 (last two losses in that season were to two teams in championship, UConn and Butler).

Although they had talent from some midwest states they were over reliant on that NYC pipeline. Once they lost Barry Rohrssen, the assistant coach with the connection to NYC talent, and Big East membership, their talent dried up and their pipeline to NYC talent was broken.

The 2011 loss, of course, was in DC as the first game of the doubleheader in which UConn beat Cincy and advanced to the West Regional in Anaheim. That was an utterly remarkable, heartbreaking loss. I felt incredibly badly for Pitt fans in the building.

Yeah. I always felt that the refs should have never called that foul. Terrible call for so many reasons.

Still, not unhappy we got the title.

Granted they got a 1 seed that year, but promptly got upset by Butler by 1 in the second round.

2013 was a round 1 loss as an 9 seed, 2014 was a round 2 spanking at the hands of 1 seeded Florida and 2016 was the last time they ever sniffed any relevance, losing in round 1 like a typical Pitt team, to 7th seeded Wisconsin, scoring 43 points in the process.

They are 15-38 over the past three seasons with their current coach who, it was claimed by their fanbase, "a better get than Hurley". Before that was Kevin Stallings for 2 years (4-32). The last decent year was 2013-14 when they went 26-10 and had a 2nd round loss and we all know what happened that which overshadowed that, by Pitt standards, excellent year. Overall, in the last 5 years with Dixon, before he left for, ?, green pastures, Pitt had only 49 more wins than losses (or a pedestrian 22-13 average record over those 5 years) but I guess they will always have that 2012 CBI champions banner.

Stallings was a disaster. He was an old boys network hire by their former AD. It seems that while Capel recruited well his first two years, he cannot relate to today's players, constantly complaining about selfishness, social media posts and "unwillingness" to buy into a team concept. He's probably also over promising top recruits instead of explaining roles. That appeared to be the major issues with McGowans and Johnson leaving. They have had some good talent.
