This steaming pile of disappointment is the ACC's problem now.

Pitt is the poster child for underachieving football program. A has been.

Pitt is the poster child for underachieving basketball program. A never was.

They are an after thought in their own city where they likely rank far behind the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, and yes Penn State.

They are not good at anything but don't totally suck. They are just a disappointment.

And that gets you ranked ahead of UConn on the totem pole in conference expansion because of a couple of good football seasons nearly 40 years ago. Their mediocrity everywhere trumps our sustained excellence in basketball. In the year 2013, UConn and Pitt are no better no worse in the sport of football. And UConn blows them out of the water in sustained excellence every where else and being the only game in town in CT. But none of it matters. And it's absurd.

The only reason SPitt was picked over us is that it gives the ACC an inroad into Pennsylvania football talent. We'll, that and BC did all they could do to keep us out.SPitt will be the only hope for BC to get out of the cellar year after year.

I can't wait to read the SPItt boards next year when they're getting corn-holed by ACC refs.

SPitt blows. They suck and they choke like clockwork at every NCAA tournament. They underachieve every year whether it is football or basketball. Good thing they are ACC's problem now. Like other posters here, I have no idea why they were picked early in this conference realignment saga.

First off, while the first two points are valid, the third isn't. Pitt is definitely not behind PSU in Pittsburgh and it's not even an argument -- I live here.

Second, it's not Pitt's fault that DeFillippo lobbied against UConn. They were just a saleable alternative. Sure, it sucks for us they got to go to a better conference, but we would've jumped at the chance if somebody lobbied against Pitt and for us.

I don't give a damn whose fault it was. And nobody would lobby against Pitt because Pitt is completely and utterly insignificant and no threat to anyone. The fact is UConn is a superior flagship athletic program than Pitt is and that includes football in the current state. And any conference that said otherwise is doom to failure because it shows how short sighted and petty it's members are.

And Western PA votes on PSU vs Pitt on gameday and I think PSU's consistent 100,000+ attendance every game vs Pitt's half empty stadium speaks volumes.

So would someone please send us to that conference doomed for failure? Thanks.

When half of its members go to the Big 10 and SEC we will be. Unless the geniuses continue to listen to schools with agendas to push like BC.

State College is in another f'ng country as far as most Pittsburghers are concerned. You could move CT into PA and put State College in the middle and Pitt would still be outside the borders. There's a reason the state is called Pennsyltucky. And what does voting on Gameday have to do with anything when Pitt is playing USF or Gardner-Webb and PSU has Michigan and Nebraska? Duh.

Ok you win.

Pitt is just a fantastic athletic program with a terrific fan base?

Feel better?

I never said that nor did I even suggest it. I simply stated that your assertion that people in Pittsburgh care more about PSU than Pitt was wrong. Because they don't. PSU's fanbase is pretty much just whatever alumni they have here and that's it.

Well it was more of a shot at Pitt in a much larger point (they are mediocrity rewarded) than a statement of fact. I still suspect if Penn State played Pitt at Pitt there would be more people rooting for Penn State.

PSU fans would outnumber Pitt fans 2 or 3 to 1 at a Pitt/PSU game at Heinz field.

What's your point, that PSU fans would travel to Pittsburgh? Maybe so.

I can tell you that I attended after moving here was the 12-0 Pitt win over PSU back in 2000 at Three Rivers. Weren't too many PSU fans to be found anywhere. Attendance was 61,000. Maybe 10% were sporting PSU colors and that's generous.

Different era though. It's possible PSU might do better at Heinz since there are now secondary markets like StubHub. But even if that were the case, the large majority of PSU butts in seats wouldn't be from Allegheny County.

I'll add that if you listened to Pgh media and public outcry on Paterno's role in the PSU scandal vs. that from Altoona/Harrisburg/State College, you'd think you were listening to two different sets of facts.

First off BC cares only about hockey. Second BC and Pitt will still have to compete against Duke football for the cellar. Oh wait a minute ACC football was so bad this year that Duke was actually good this year.

Certainly UConn would have gone if given the opportunity. Problem was Pitt voted down the ESPN offer that would have given the remaining BE teams 14 million. UConn didn't. And within 6 months Pitt bolted. Cuse at least supported the contract. The other two universities voting down the contract were ND and Gtown. I hold nothing against Gtown who tried to hold the conference together until the writing was on the wall. ND should never have been given a vote. They had their own deal and could leave anytime so the conference sold their soul to the devil by giving them this power.

So Pitt was the most dishonorable of the teams that have destroyed the BE. A close second goes to ND.
