Pitt AD Heather Lyke: ACC Network calls for ‘major investment’

>>While the channel will debut in fall 2019, each individual school must be ready to go by fall 2018. For Pitt and its ACC brethren, that means putting money into new or upgraded studios and figuring out how to best produce original content in-house.<<

>>Lyke said she doesn’t yet have an exact number in terms of the financial commitment needed but called it “a significant investment.” According to a report from the Hampton Roads Daily Press last month, athletic officials at Virginia and Virginia Tech estimated their infrastructure costs between $5 million and $7 million.

While Lyke acknowledged that some schools are further ahead than others in terms of their development progress, she expressed her belief that Pitt is somewhere in the middle of the pack.<<

Same kind of costs that the SEC and BTN had....

A couple of schools, FSU in particular, were ready to go several years ago because they already produced and broadcast ESPN material.

So any mentions of us building or upgrading media capabilities could be a bellwether that something big is coming.

If the AAC added the top schools in the Mountain West and BYU, could it develop a profitable network?
