well we know Kelly isnt changing shoes but was just curious if they had "new" ones on
None of the UConn kids had pink shoes.
Kelly's sneakers looked out of the box new; but I think they were the same model she has been wearing all year. (Her old ones have been looking pretty well worn out and dirty for the past few weeks -- "working girl's shoes".)
The rest of the team did have new models (plural).
Most of the team (all but Tiff, Kaleena and Lauren), had a new shoe model that is mostly white but has blue/gray trim covering the ankles.
Tiff, Kaleena and Lauren had a new shoe that is white with red trim, a black tongue and red laces. It looks very similar to the shoes the whole team wore for the first six games of the season (excepting Stanford) plus Fairfield and UNC. This may be the same shoe as the early season model with minor cosmetic changes; or it may be an all new model. There is no way to tell from the pictures.
This was a rare occasion in UConn "shoe history" where a new shoe was introduced, but was not worn by all (or nearly all) the players. (Three years ago, there was a new shoe introduced for a big ESPN game where all players except Lorin Dixon and Tina Charles had the new shoe. My theory on that is that the shoe was not yet available in a size as large as Tina required, or as small as Lorin needed.) Just guessing here!
Hayes, Lewis and Engeln had a new white shoe with red trim, a black tongue and red laces. It looked very much like the shoes the whole team wore in the first six games of the season (except Stanford), and also for the Fairfield and UNC games.
For many years, it has been a rare game where all (or very nearly all) the entire UConn Team has not worn the same shoe.
Any one who wants to see clear pictures of the new shoes, go to today's (Feb 12) "Photos UConn vs Georgetown, Courant". There are lots of action close-ups of the kids shoes.
FWIW: I think the shoe change today was a contributor to KML's superb play.
Others, of course, will disagree.
