We were recruiting him at one point.. looks like he’s all but sold on Memphis. Will be a nice pickup for them

A lot of talk of them being in the drivers seat for Trendon Watford as well. 5 star recruit.

We should all be very happy about this development, particularly if Quinones follows through with a commitment - only one thing would be better, and that is if he were committing here (which he isn't).

We NEED a team in the AAC in addition to us to become a national power and a consistent threat to win the National Championship... and a team headed by a name brand, easy-to-dislike while also respected coach (don't get me wrong, as we would LOVE Penny Hardaway if he was our guy; but his holier-than-thou, often self-righteous, brash act will become easy for us to dislike intensely if he sticks around and continues to be able to recruit like he is John Calipari and as a result put AND keep Memphis as a team at the top of the AAC on a yearly basis). We need a true and worthy antagonist to feed off of.

Yes, we do not like Cincinnati because they have been beating us consistently and often beating us up in the process. But since they keep flaming out in the tournament every year it is hard to build more than a little animosity toward them and the little leprechaun. It's at the point now where we pity him as much as anything else.

Compare it to the frothing hatred we had for Georgetown, St. John's and the Cuse back in the 80's and 90's... not even close to the same level. It wasn't just that they were our conference bullies and we struggled mightly to even win any game against them (particularly Georgetown and St. John's, as we figured out how to win games against Syracuse once Calhoun got here)... it was that THEY HAD WHAT WE YEARNED FOR - a sustained national presence, name-brand coaches, a conveyor belt of Top 10 recruits. All of it made them totally hateable. We respected them, but underneath that we hated them and envied them.

You watch - if Hardaway can sustain this, he and Memphis will quickly become our most hated rival in the AAC. And having that kind of LATHERED, INTENSE HATRED for another school and coach would make this bastardized conference just a bit more enjoyable for us to be stuck in... and maybe bring back the opportunity for some truly memorable games like we have not had around here in way too long.

Safe to say UConn and Memphis will be back on the map for next year.

Now if Wichita St. could follow suit the AAC it a very formidable conference.

AAC should be considered a power conference if this trajectory continues.
