Pernetti Gone

I'll bet they took care of him. After all, he kept the embarrassing news quiet until after the B1G deal was done.

Rutgers fans are 10:1 pro Pernitti. He did what he had to do to save that athletic program. Morality doesn't matter, just results.

I still dont think he really saved anything. There's no shame in firing a coach for being a total psycho. Had Pernetti fired Rice last year, they're still in the Big 10, and he still has a job.

Well let's check the tape . . . Rutgers in BiG. UConn is in conference smorgasbord (Aflac Conference). Morality?????

Rutgers seems incapable of making the correct decision before the whole world tells them how stupid they are.

I don't know. The report I heard on some NJ station (or maybe Philly, not sure)while I was driving through sure made it sound like Pernetti is a scapegoat in this. True or not I can't say but they were claiming he reported this to higher ups, he brought in an outside counsel to advise on how to handle it and followed their advice and he fined and suspended Rice. Now, after the fact people have decided that he should have done more. I'm not so sure that's really fair. He didn't hide the fact that Rice acted like an . He didn't let him get away with being an . Not a totally unreasonable position to take in my mind.

Appears Pernetti is sacrificial lamb since at least 3 board members also saw Rice video & agreed w/initial suspension

He will be well compensated to be the fall guy.

"As you know, my first instincts when I saw the videotape of Coach Rice's behavior was to fire him immediately. However, Rutgers decided to follow a process involving university lawyers, human resources professionals, and outside counsel. Following review of the independent investigative report, the consensus was that university policy would not justify dismissal. I have admitted my role in, and regret for, that decision, and wish that I had the opportunity to go back and override it for the sake of everyone involved."

Just saw on ESPN a Rutgers' student chucked a waterballoon at an ESPN photographer and the media is getting harassed on campus. Keep it up Rutgers! Great reflection on your university. (Not that I would expect anything less from the Rutgers' students).

You know what?......our conference affiliation sucks and I still would not want to be Rutgers. They just never get it right and when they finally start getting some of it right (football program) they duck up huge. They are not quality and they are never champions.......at anything. We'll eventually land in an OK place and we will continue to win championships and Rutgers will continue to be Rutgers.

That is the gist of the report I heard. The guy followed procedures set down in various University documents. And it isn't like they did nothing. Though in this situation Perrnetti might have been in a damned if you do-damned if you don't situation, especially if he was advised by counsel and hr people that it didn't rise to the level of a fireable offense. He fires rice and Rice sues, he would be under criticism from the same people for over ruling those people. I can see the headlines "Rutgers AD ignored Lawyer's Advice" and "Christie: AD's decision costs taxpayer."

Yup... became apparant when the University General Counsel resigned as a result of this. They are going to need the B1G $$$ to settle all this.

One thing I can't stand in this world are the vultures that come running once bad happens to make a buck or get a cheap thrill. They are never there to solve a problem, never one step ahead to ward off trouble, always, always, always show up to benefit from trouble. At least the kids at Rutgers are subdued enough to only throw water balloons. Could be a lot worse and I don't blame them one bit.

Throwing water balloons at reporters = good

Criticizing Coach P = BAD

No.... you obviously don't bother to read or you can't comprehend. It's the cheap shots at the coaching staff that makes UConn fans look foolish, not constructive criticism and that's what I call out, especially when it comes from people who have never coached at the Div-1 level themselves.

As far as the water balloon thing, way too many have their nose stuck up somebody else's butt to the point that it's rotting the country. There is no more right to privacy in this country and the only reason is because somebody can't make a buck off ya if they don't know what your doing. It's no one else's business what goes on at Rutgers. It's their business. Not yours.

I am totally in favor of Rutgers people making asses of themselves and ESPN people having water balloons thrown at them.

This is win/win.

I can't stand people who make excuses for failed head coaches.

You chose a case of a major public university abusing young athletes and possibly covering that up for financial gain to advocate "privacy rights" and blast off on freedom of the press? Really? When countries sink into dictatorship or fascism the first groups that are attacked are the press, the unions and the civil rights attorneys. You've got one, two more and you may reach utopia.
