Like many of you I am a Paige fan. Liked that she was hooting last night. But was bummed that many shots were missed. Would have liked to see her reach double digit points throughout her college career. It isn't often that freshman get to start at UConn. After she hit the three I really was hoping that she would get fouled to go to the line. However, she in-bounds the ball so that chance was basically gone and not enough time on the clock left. Am proud of her though. She played a solid game once again.

They did try that step-in play where she gets the ball back right away, but the first one didn't fall and then the Vols were onto it.

I think I am starting to buy into Geno's push for her to shoot more, both for her own shot and when she tries to create her own shot, it does open up more passing opportunities, particularly inside.

If I was coaching against this team, I would give Aubrey and Liv as many wide open threes as they want, and be thank-full for every one they launched. Evina and Christyn I would try to limit somewhat from there, but I would still prefer to protect the inside. Anna and Paige are the only players you never want to allow to have an open 3 pointer.

That means Paige only has one lockdown three point shooter to pass to, and she doesn't start anymore. She needs to penetrate the zones to the midrange shot area where she is very good, and when the defense starts to collapse toward her, look more to the inside (Liv, Aaliyah, and Aubrey) than kicking back to an open three point shooter, where our options at least this year are nothing special.

I was watching the Top Ten UConn all time players TV show the other night..........many of those players selected had 4 year career stats far lower than what PB is averaging as a skinny freshman...........if she stays healthy she's going to be near or at the top of that list........

Maybe we do not have to wait 4 years and start by ranking best moments by a UConn Freshman ??

Last night, the announcers commented that Rae Burrell was guarding Paige and that was a major cause of the poor shooting. I also noticed a few times where Paige lost Burrell in the first half and Burrell scored. I wonder what other people saw about Paige and Rae.

I was reminded of something Geno said about Napheesa after one of her thirty point games: "She scored almost as many points as the person she was guarding."

Probably after a 5 block 4 steal game.

I thought it was Paige just missing. Paige is a reluctant scorer so highly doubtful she is taking as many shots as she did - especially from 3 - that it was that much defense related in the number of her misses. I thought she was open enough to get off clean shots a lot. And imo Rebecca has to keep a flow going during her commentary, what can she say on Nationally Televised game? Rip both the defender and the offensive player?

I think a general rule for a commentator when good teams are playing each other - if the opposing team is missing you give "positive credit" to the defense rather than negative comments about a specific player. So ofc she is going to say it was the defense.

I didn't think Paige was only on Rae defensively either. They remarked how CWill was guarding her and Rae just shot over her.

There was a play in the 3rd period where an overhead camera caught Bueckers driving the right side of the key until she was surrounded by 4 Vol defenders, like a box about 10 feet from the hoop. But before they could close in she went up and passed. On the replay you can see that there were 3 UConn players left unguarded, 2 out on the arc and one underneath. I think it was Griffin that got the pass and scored inside. It just shows that despite not shooting much she still draws defenders when she drives and that will created a lot of wide open 3's. Defenses are already spotlighting Bueckers.

Message to writers: Ask Bueckers about her HS team. Hopkins looks better this year than last. At least it's different.

Successful HS basketball programs attract successful players. Hopkins HS fits that paradigm.
