thanks! must have been asleep when I read the paper this a.m. I wonder if it has to do with the horrible budget deficit in CT and the expected cuts to everything....

No mention of UConn WBB or any athletic programs. UConn needs to be more visible to Fairfield County first!!! I love it when the UConn men and women BB owned MSG!!

What in the world was that ad all about? Must have been expensive. And I don't get it. Anyone else?

(Actually, our budget deficit isn't a big deal. Look at other states.)

It is truly times like these that I long for buying booze and getting on the train to ride home and finally have time to read page A5. Sure, I have the Rockies capped in snow outside my window, but I can't share this wonderful repartee on a subject dear to my hear - the ever growing bankruptcy of my former home state - the still out of control home state. Well, our girls did go testify in support of the U, but you have to know that the Golden Hinds are last to go and such feckless things as education will suffer.

would you like me to serve you some fries with that, too? Sheesh right back at you! :)

Fish and chips, mate. Fish and chips. ;)

PS. The whole British mayo on chips thing, ugh! Beans and bangers for breakfast I get. Not bad in an artery clogging way, but mayo....

So: the cleanest of the dirty shirts, huh?

OT: We don't have county-level government, so a lot of functions, and debt, that would normally be done by counties is done by the state government in Connecticut. Taken together- municipal and state- we're about average. Apologies to all for the OT comment.

Yeah- we're not as bad as Detroit and Chicago/Illinois! They'll never stop or slow spending- ever! Too many favors to pay off or pay back.

I apologize for one more OT, but the state's revenues today are no higher than they were eight years ago. That's right: tax revenues today are what they were in 2008. So "spending" is not the problem.

Well... is spending the same as 2008? Then maybe it is part of the problem.
Start a thread on this in the Cesspool and will go 5-7 pages, easily.

It's the unfunded liabilities ($65B in the state of CT) that beset virtually all local and national governments in North & South America, Australia, Japan, and Europe. We all know how that happened, how every political party is equally to blame, and why it can't be fixed unless central banks continue to penalize savers and force everyone to put every penny into the stock market, and then, just don't be the last out when it collapses (again)....

The British are not into mayo on chips - they prefer the cider vinegar - I believe it is the Belgian's who are famous for the mayo.

The French also love mayo on their fries.

The vinegar of choice in the UK is malt vinegar - drooling just thinking abut it.

Back when I was somebody I had Llyods Bank Int'l as a client...trust me on the mayo. Yes, vinegar too and maybe vinegar was the winner.

That's funny. Most people that have a decrease in income adjust their spending habits. Something that politicians are apparently unable to understand.

Actually, the "per capita income" in Connecticut is roughly $65,000. Our unfunded liabilities are now approximately $26 billion. $10 billion is for the public school teacher pension fund. And Connecticut teachers are not eligible to receive Social Security.

Though state revenues have not gone up, inflation has increased, and salaries, for those still employed as teachers, police officers, etc., has gone up, albeit slowly.
