Over 28% are in the portal

There are a little over 5000 NCAA Division 1 female basketball players. As of earlier today, there are 1425 players in the portal making it a bit over 28%. That is over 1 our of every 4!!!

Curious, does anybody know the overall "transfer rate" of all college students. I know lots of students start smaller "regional" schools before transferring to the larger state universities. But in my long time ago experience of university, I don't remember it being anywhere near 25%. Anybody have any actual data?

Per this article it's about 13%, but a large number of those students are from community colleges transferring to a 4 year university.

I wouldn't be shocked if a large number of the '4 year university --> different 4 year university' transfer students are transferring from smaller state schools to flagship universities. Often times flagship universities are harder to get into straight out of high school, but once students have a year of undergrad under their belt, it's easier to transfer in.

with 15 players at least 1/3 are not playing meaningful
minutes and if avaliable would look for a school wherr
they could get playing time

Note that the percentage is somewhat misleading. For one thing, it includes many graduating seniors who still have a year of eligibility. Some of them are legitimate players, and some simply put their name in the portal hoping some school somewhere might show enough interest that they can play another season.
