You and I must have grown up at the same time in CT. Gave you a like even though I don't like having one of my idols die,1st Mickey, now YA. On another matter, how did the surgery go? Was surprised to hear that Kalispell didn't have a MD to do the procedure.

RockyMTblue2....thanks for posting this picture. If there was a hall of fame for football photographs this would have been a first ballot entry. If i remember correctly, this photo was at the very the end of his career on a day when he was sacked a bunch of times and obviously really beat up. Y A was a good man...RIP

That hit was layed on Tittle by John Baker of the Steelers. Tittle suffered a broken sternum, bruised ribs and a concussion. At 38 years of age, it was the beginning of the end for Tittle.

Y.A. didn't look like a football player, as he went bald fairly young. He also had an unusual sidearm delivery. But he led the Giants to great success, just short of a championship. Tittle to Shofner was often a long touchdown pass in the early 1960s.

Hey MT, I see Kalispell is home town. I live 20 miles outside of Bozeman, and its retinal specialist and Billing's specialist were both away. Missoula was closest to me. Kalispell was next. For at least some weeks eye sight is a mess if I keep the repaired eye open. It's a kick, but it beats a sharp stick in the eye. I've got a gas bubble and "water" in the eye and the gas will slowly go away. Fascinating to be seeing the gas/water interface. Asked the specialist if anyone had ever asked to keep their vitreous as a souvenir. He allowed as how no one ever had , partially restoring my faith in man kind.

Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery! We just moved out of Kalispell 4 weeks ago, now living on the S.Oregon coast in Brookings. Last winter was the straw that broke the camels back. Gets lots of rain but at least I don't have to shovel it!

I was neither a fan nor a "hater" of this man. But I felt so sorry for him after the Chicago Bears hurt him again and again in the 1963 title game. The level of violence in that game was frightening. We will never see another game like it, and that's fine with me,

Y.A. was a favorite of mine as well. He had a fairly lengthy but unspectacular career, mostly with the 49ers, before joining the Giants in 1961 around the age of 35 after Charlie Conerly retired. His best years were 1962 and 1963, with a total of 69 touchdown passes, favorite targets Shofner and Gifford.

The games were on Channel 3, with Chris Schenkel announcing.

The picture of him on his knees with helmet off is a very sad one, kind of a symbol for Father Time being undefeated. It occurred in 1964, when the Giants team just seemed to collapse. Age caught up to a lot of them, Huff and Modzelewski were traded, and it was all very troubling to this 12 year old fan.

I will remember Y.A. as the star who I saw on black and white tv throw 7 touchdowns against the Redskins, not the battered guy kneeling on the turf.

I share your memories. It was hard for a young fan when the Giants and Yankees grew old and declined at about the same time.

We should consider that Y.A. 's death could portend the end of times. In the Bible Jesus is quoted as saying that " not one Tittle shall pass until all things have been accomplished."

Having seen his Giants go 0-5, Yelburton thought this was a good time to check out. He'll now play on Elysian Field.

I didn’t know he was alive into 2017.
RIP.
He was a star when I was at UConn. There was a guy on my floor my freshman year who said he could throw a football like Tittle. My 7 year old granddaughter has a better arm than that guy did. So of course for the rest of that year, the guy was openly nicknamed “YA”.

Channel 3 Sunday and every Sunday at 1PM. NO Thursday or Monday games. One game ONLY on Sunday. Dollars had not yet CORRUPTED the NFL.!!!!!!

Oh boy, do I ever remember Sunday's like that...! We lived near the NH-Vt border, and channel 3 was a godsend TV wise in those days. It was essentially the only channel we had, although I remember channel 8 from New Haven came in fairly good.

With the hills all running in a south to north manner, Channel 3's signal wasn't impeded much, so it came in very clear even way up where we were. Now, TV signals from Boston, not so much, those hills really diminished the signal.

No one ever played the position of QB better than YAT did from 1961 to 1963.
