* Strictly a breaking news thread*, please don't get into whether or not you like the Church/the pope/etc.
Tim Tebow
Sheesh, who'd have thunk the boneyard would be my source for this info?
Good grief :-o
I'm old.
He has managed one of the largest and most difficult archdiocese in the church so he has structural experience. His tone does sound like the simplicity so embodied in the ministry of John XXIII. He has kept his distance from the liberation theology that has been extensively celebrated by areas of the Latin American church.Wow - a very big deal indeed for the Latin American world. Huge!
Godspeed to him, he has a lot of managerial cleanup to do. I hope those demands don't take him away from being the inspirational leader that so many need him to be. JP II is still sorely missed in that regard.
His tone does sound like John XXIII.
No pope was so critical to the ecumenical movement than John XXIIIThat would be welcome...

Yes, the nature of the pope broadly impacts relationships across the church. The participation of the Roman Catholic church in ecumenical dialogs not only open discussions between the Roman church and specific protestant traditions but the tone led protestant denominations into dialog with each other. Is the pope in any way significant outside of Catholicism?
Much of that will depend on his health more than age.Perhaps, too old, a caretaker.
