. . . games against unranked opponents. More likely the Huskies are a shoo-in (sure thing) to win these games.

One online grammar site provided an amusing hint. It suggested that shoo-in was like urging a race horse across the line by just saying "Shoo!" OTOH, shoe-in was more like a shoehorn, used to squeeze something in -- a tight fit.:rolleyes:

Thank you. That one always bothers me. However, the picture of "shooing" a racehorse is pretty ridiculous! I tend to think of shooing a fly - gentle movement gets it to move (though not permanently!)
