The word I have from someone connected to several people at VTech is that this may have been a domestic dispute. The dead officer may have been a woman and the killer a spouse or boyfriend. That would explain why, as it seems, the killer was not in the car that the officer stopped, but someone who may have been out to kill the officer. None of this is verified as of this writing.

slight revision. The officer was male, but the story still seems to be that it was a domestic issue, and not some random thing.
