How is it that you end up following people twitter you never "followed"? Anyone have any idea how that happens?

You're still not following them. Twitter changed who they "promote" awhile ago.

The tweets show up because you follow a person that follow the person that tweeted that.

Example being you can see a tweet fromRandyEdsall based off the people you follow, even if you don't follow Edsall.

While scrolling through your feed/timeline, someone may retweet a tweet by one who you don't follow. It is really easy to then hit the little button on your phone and follow them by accident

It's a scam. Like those invites from "friends" on LnkdIn. They come from LnkdIn, not your friends. The sites want to brag about how many followers they have.

So no need to change passwords this is actually being done by twitter? There was another new followed person today. I just unfollowed them. Very annoying. May quit twitter altogether.
