I've been intrigued watching HGTV Shows and Youtube Video's on Couples/Singles deciding to purchase and live in a Tiny House. Saw an episode where a couple with a young child do it and I'm not sure that's wise. They range in size from less then 200 SQ FT up to around 450 SQ Ft. Most are smaller then Studio Apartments. Some are built on trailers that can be towed and others that are more permanent and not designed to be moved. I've seen prices from $12K up to 60K and up.

Is this something that you would consider? If not why not? Do you know any1 that live in a Tiny House and what are their experiences? Any other comments.

For me, I'm not sure. It sure is tempting to attempt it.

I had a friend in college who decided that the only reason you really need money is to own stuff, and the less stuff you need to own the less money you need. He carried through on it for years traveling the world and owning basically three changes of clothes - did a few odd jobs here and there to eat and to pay for the next flight or train or bus. I always admired him, but was never tempted - I like my stuff!

To some degree the very small house idea is similar - if you don't need lots of 'stuff' you really do not need much space to live comfortably. We have as a society gone in the opposite direction creating McMansions and turning bedrooms into huge spaces. The house my parents built had four bedroom for the kids that were each 10'x6' with a built in desk and closet. We spent very little time in our rooms which was more social. Beds got bigger and everyone now wants a personal 'cave' so bedroom sizes have gotten much bigger.

Tiny houses are also similar to what people who live on boats deal with. I think in general it is not a bad idea to rebel against super sizing. (Says he who lives alone in a four bedroom house!)

Not exactly pertinent, but, as I've said before, "everything's a song cue".

Creative cover of the old Pete Seeger tune, by Walk Off the Earth. They do delightful stuff by the way - check 'em out on Youtube.

On the other hand, there is Erdogan's humble abode (which the Turkish Supreme Court has just, after the fact AND after the recent elections, ruled was illegally built on protected forest land). Neat little place.

My wife and I collect "stuff". That's just the way it is. Need lots of display room.
