OT: The top 25 greatest hits albums of all time

Well, I think one's favorite greatest hits album would be the one from your favorite group, and the best would be the one from the band you thought had the best hits. I certainly can't argue with the top two in this list, which are actually three -- the Red and Blue albums from the Beatles and Hot Rocks by the Stones.

Missing from the list IMO: Best of Blondie and Time Peace by the Rascals. Both quintessential singles bands. Not my cuppa, but Michael Jackson definitely deserves to be on the list.

I've never posted a topic to vote on or discuss!
So here is my first,

The top 25 greatest hits albums of all time

What are your top 25 greatest hits albums of all time?
Only 3 female artists/groups out of 25 is a bummer. This list also ignores all post 2000 music.

Crosby Stills Nash and Young - So Far was a favorite in the day and holds up well.

I also think Harry Chapin had a greatest hits album that I liked, also Jim Croce. I don't listen to that much music these days, but since my favorites are either old or dead, Greatest Hits type albums hit the highlights.

Can't believe this was omitted

Mostly because it’s not a “true” greatest hits album. It doesn’t even become close to including his greatest hits, just songs that were released as singles.

The 25 greatest Hits Albums I listed above are not my choices but YARDBARKER!
The following are my top 25 Greatest Hits albums:

4. Ray Charles His Greatest Hits Uh, Huh (1992)
5. Eric Clapton Timepieces The Best of Eric Clapton (1982)
6. Barry Manilow Greatest Hits I, II, III (1984)
7. Eva Cassidy The Best Of (2012)
8. Michael Jackson History (1995)

20. Beach Boys Very Best of the Beach Boys (2003)
21. Diana Ross & the Supremes Greatest Hits (1967)
22. Queen Greatest Hits (1981)
23. Madonna The Immaculate Collection (1990)
24. Al Green Greatest Hits (1975)
25. Rolling Stones Hot Rocks 1964-1971 (1971)

40 Licks, for me, is greatly superior to Hot Rocks.
Others for me:
Squeeze: Big Squeeze is a double album: disk 1 is greatest hits, disk 2 is B-sides, including a number of gems.
The Cure: Staring at the Sea
Jefferson Airplane: 2400 Fulton Street
The Beatles are my favorite group, but none of their greatest hits albums do much for me: too many of the songs I like
the best were not hit songs. If pressed, I would probably pick Anthology, which isn't really GH.

RSHERM mentioned some blues guys. Depending on how far we want to stretch it, I’d nominate Robert Johnson, King of the Delta Blues. That was two records released on Folkways in, I think, the early 60’s. The original 78’s were remastered in the early 2000’s and released as The Complete Recordings. The remastering is absolutely fantastic. Clear, no pop, hiss, or clipping.

ALL of the Beatle's albums are greatest hits.
