are challenging without helmets, yet these losers that i see riding their bikes going 10/15 miles an hour on the sidewalk( or way on the right hand side of the road) have helmets equipped with blinkers. God is that (no slur here) happy.

Really drives me spare. Anyone with any coordination whatsoever is not going to incur irreparable head trauma from a bike spill without a helmet. Wow!

I can tell you stories and take you to meet people in long term care facilities that will make you change your opinion. ;)

On a half pipe you don't have to worry about getting hit by a driver sending a text message.

A guy crashed his moped in Bristol and died from head injury. I've been on an 18 speed and have gone faster than moped.

Just sayin'

I ride bikes a lot.. I have been hit once by a motorcycle from behind. A surprising percentage of my friends have been hit as well. If you ride bikes enough, something will happen sooner or later, either because of something stupid you do or because of a driver not paying attention.

This. My wife bikes to work twice a week when the weather permits and she is amazed at how, as she puts it, she "seems invisible" to drivers while on her bike.

You mean this guy?

DJ Hernandez's uncle...

This is a Stephen King horror story. DJ's mom has to be heavily medicated at this point. First Aaron, then the guy in the car crash who was related and now this. Sad.....

Yeah, I sometimes go 10 mph on my bike. Uphill.
I regularly go 45-50 mph down West Todd Street in Hamden. My helmet might save my life if I should crash at that moment.

The amazing thing is that Connecticut repealed the motorcycle helmet law. That must be one hell of a lobby.

I am continually amazed at how often people crash their bikes at high speed and don't get much more than scrapes and bruises. It's because of the helmet I am sure. I have crashed twice in races this year. Both going twenty plus. After the second one I had to replace the helmet. But I did see a guy go down HARD on a 40+ mph descent in practice going around KU's stadium complex. The next time around they were loading him into an ambulance.

Haha, I just biked by there on Sherman yesterday. I'm too scared to go much faster than 35 on a descent, and I prefer the Quinnipiac York Hill campus cause there's fewer cars and it's a wide divided road...

Still Hill/West Todd/Gaylord Mtn. Rd. are all on my regular loop from the house. Not a lot of cars but I've had a few close calls there.

The main reason I stopped road riding years ago and went exclusively to mtn biking is I could never enjoy a ride due to cars. Always had that nagging feeling people were driving by too close and/or not paying attention to me on the side of the road.
