Sense of humor or not, words are words. And I cannot see a smile or the emotion behind the words and that seems to be a problem for me on this board. But on this point ranchers have a lot of different ways to produce revenue if it is cost effective paying for itself and producing a profit for re-investment into that business model I for one with wild horses could round up what I want and sell them to the rodeos for good money. However, wild horse herds, i. e. mustangs, are few and far between these days and I prefer to see this one thrive. Hunting leases and fishery leases in the mountains is another way to collect, but I have a problem with bunch of people running around on my land who do not real understand fire discipline. I have found dead cows and even dead horses killed by shot on different parts of my land because it is contiguous to the Santa Fe National Forest. The Feds wire the boundary, but that does not stop them. Just for your information, I integrate the calfs back into the herd and sell the mature animals. People do not realize the costs of raising a herd which include veterinary expense for vaccinations and registration of the animals. Lot of paper work. So when predators decide to eat my cattle, I lose income and it is a waste of invested money. My hay buyers from Florida, are asking me for more product so we have been considering another 500 acres. But I am old and we are doing just fine. My big problem is the operation of this entity after I die. What happens to it. Glad that there is no more death tax. Hoping that one of my boys takes a liking to it.
