I am reliably informed that The Hour newspaper will shut down its presses in a very few days after 140 years of publishing service to the Norwalk community.
This is a sad event for us Norwalkers. We have been accustomed to Our Home Town Newspaper providing daily news about our municipal government, communities, schools, and obituaries. Somehow the staff covered all sports for two high schools, plus Little League, Legion Baseball, and Pop Warner Football. There were of course other sports topics, including Calvin Murphy, Rita Williams, Mo Vaughn and, yes, the UConn Huskies.
I am proud to personally attest to the dedicated support that The Hour has faithfully provided to the veterans' community. We are all grateful.
I could go on. Like my extended neighbors, I am conflicted between sad thought about the prospect of losing a dear old friend and anxiety about the future source, if any, for local or regional news.
