14. The Scot Robert the Bruce was the enemy of the English King Edward I (Longshanks) who defeated Robert the Bruce and sent him into hiding. However, after Longshanks death Robert made a comeback and defeated Edward II who would never recognized a free Scotland. After more “consolidation” of the Scots, they recognized Robert the Bruce as their king and not Edward II who was eventually shunted to the side and Edward III officially recognized a free Scotland, free of England’s rule.
