I am somewhat ancient (gonna be 60 this summer!) but also grew up with older siblings so my memory does travel back to the do-wop era and I am a HUGE music fan and an amateur musician. But I also used a bit of deductive reasoning on this. I'm not sure "sunspots" were a commonly known phenomenum in the 50s, so it was unlikely to be used in pop culture.
