15. Narcissus?

16. Many early telescopic observers noted what were termed "nebulous stars",
many of which were, in fact, galaxies. Immanuel Kant and William Herschel,
among others, speculated that these nebulous stars were island universes like
our own Milky Way. The journey from speculation to demonstration extended
into the early twentieth century and involved, among other things, the
establishment of a reliable distance scale. Many individuals were involved in
these researches. I don't think any single individual can be credited with
"discovering the galaxies.".

As you say, speculation existed before the 20th C, but it took someone to hang his measurements on a reliable star to provide true evidence.

19..Meyers is correct, but posters need to go further. One is on Meddle; another on Division Bell.

20..Tempus fugit.

23..The Venerable Bede is a staple of Catholic History, but we need someone who is as recent a "venerable" as possible.
And why I proclaim "I". It's right in front of your, um, left eye.

I certainly don't know it, but from your clue, Biship Fulton Sheen. Which I also wouldn't know if someone hadn't identified the pic.

14..Bucharest says Best.

15..Pinot, Knights & VTC with Dorian Gray, the character in literature who remains the same age, but whose mirror image ages.

16..I think ed4's remarks are to be taken as an assertion that inventors/discoverers often stand on others' shoulders.
With that in mind, in this case technology and talent and timing allow Edwin Hubble to emerge as the credited figure here.

17..Frank is correct about Wyoming & Montana.

18..Best explains the issue--may one legally lie about receiving military decorations? The Supremes say "yea".

19..One of These Days and Coming Back to Life.

20..This was one of those exercizes that bored teens may do...more specifically, my buddy Bruce came into the soda shop where we hung out to announce that a million seconds takes about 11 1/2 days.

21..Best & VAUC score with Gulliver, but only VAUC knows why it's worth a grin.

22..Crown's one contribution is a singular winner--Gently.

23..Bishop Fulton Sheen, it is announced by the Vatican, is newly under investigation for sainthood.

24..Rbny & Best arrive at Adler.

25..And Best is alone with 999.

This section merits a 21 1/3.
