OT - Tailgating Generator

I have the Honda EU2000i but this looks interesting (especially @ $600 price point).

I don't know about the Ryobi, but I can absolutely vouch for the reliability and performance of the Honda EU2K's.

I got to see them used in a large variety of environmental conditions where uninterupted, clean power had to be guaranteed. And in four years, I never saw it fail to perform.

Very quiet too.

They sounded too loud to me.

Important with generators. Run them dry on fuel or you will be doing a carb clean.

Not sure what your looking to run but consider a power inverter hooked up to car / truck will be quieter

If you are only using the setup for a TV and maybe a fan while tailgating, you can get a 500W inverter and deep cycle marine battery for about $200. The battery will run a TV/fan for 6-8 hours. Takes a while to recharge, but this is a much cheaper and quieter way to go for strictly tailgating. If you have other uses for the generator, by all means....

These maintenance-free batteries also play double duty on the water, serving as either a cranking battery or a deep-cycle power source. In testing, this design lasted up to 600 drain/charge cycles, giving them a life span far surpassing conventional batteries.

Fair point Jax. With all the storms /power outages we had up here over recent years, two buddies of mine were able to convince their bankers (wifes) that a generator would be a smart move for emergency prepardness. Kill two birds w/ one stone.

Yeah, I completely agree. Like I said, if you have a need for it elsewhere, then certainly get a generator. I think all houses (homeowners at least) should have one.
