How does this guy stay employed? He is almost as annoying as Jim Rome.
Almost? He is the most annoying man on the planet. The schtick with him and Skip Bayless yelling at each other on that morning show is absolutely unbearable. Id be shocked if more than 1000 people watched that show.

You'd be shocked then. There's a reason they've revamped the show to focus exclusively on the Skip / Stephen A. stuff, and just added an additional half hour every day. I don't watch it (mostly because I work for a living) but a lot of people do.

As long as Skip Bayless and Cowherd exist there's no way Stephen A. can be the most annoying man on the planet.

Skip Bayless was actually a good sports writer back in his day, his ESPN personality is just some stupid shtick. Screamin A. is an actual idiot and Cowherd an abrasive blowhard.

When I saw the Thread Title, I was sure you were going to be very complimentary of SAS. So I was completely shocked by the content of your post. That said, I was also expecting a short conclusory statement and was pleased to see such a detailed analysis of a topic worthy of its own thread.

Really? hes an idiot? i think his sports knowledge outside of boxing is pretty sharp and he freelly admits hes not the most knowledgeable on certain sports. i dont agree with everything he says but i respect he tells it how he sees it and doesnt apologize for it.

The only good thing about Bayless is his brothers cooking prowess. I enjoy the hell out of it every time im in Chicago.

pretty sure first take absolutely kills the 18-34 demo(as much as you can kill midday week slots). the 'analysis' is generally terrible but their formula is still genius. ESPN has it made, theres millions of people who will just flip there and leave it if they cant find anything in 3 minutes(i did this basically every day in college)

Never mind then. Smith has no redeeming qualities.
I think that once upon a time they were both pretty good writers. Two more things ruined by ESPN.

I love how sometimes his talking heads look like they're from 1992. He could be talking about puppies and lolipops and it'd look like he was discussing the Apocalypse. LIGHTEN UP BRO

I dont have a problem with him because I dont take him seriously I watch First Take for entertainment purposes only. He does know alot when it comes to the NBA and is very accurate with his NBA rumors.

I will listen to him on ESPN NY to get information about the Knicks since he is a knicks fan himself and pretty harsh critic of them, he just calls it like it is I like that. He does get annoying at times but is honest and right to the point on his opinions. If you wanna get NBA news you listen to Stephen A Smith and not Chris Broussard.

Does anyone outside of college kids watch it? It's on during the day, if either of those bumbling idiots were any good they put them on in the big boy hours, like at night, when people who advertisers care about are watching

The problem with SAS is that he sounds like he is trying to reign in controversy. He is always yelling to get his point across. He comes across as a pompous, arrogant, jerk. That is probably why he gets a lot of criticism. I have no problem with "someone telling it like it is", unless they sound like SAS.

I've hated him since he wrote that awful article for the Chicago Tribune on the eve of the 1999 NCAA Championship game. He stated that, "all those thuggish Huskies will look like lilepuetians (sp) against a sophomore (Elton Brand) from Peekskill, NY". Thought he was garbage since. Read Jim Calhoun's "Dare to Dream" to get his take on that quote.

Of course, who had the last laugh?:D

I get to watch it quite a bit, since I work 7pm-7am. Usually catch it just before bed. But I get your point, obviously.

I actually love Stephen A. I think he's hilarious and he's a good foil for Bayless to bounce his crazy monologues off of. There's a reason the show is so popular, even though its not for everyone.

i've never seen the show on espn but i've watched clips on espn.com not for information but just to watch them yell at each other. I mean they get into histrionics even when they agree it's like jerry springer for sports. I'm waiting for the episode where they announce they're in a relationship(obviously abusive) together and one of them is actually a man.

Stephen A. Smith is an abrasive idiot, the man professes to be an nba expert and earlier this season he said he's never heard of Chandler Parsons. Skip Bayless is an insufferable as well but Stephen A. somehow is even more annoying. As for Rick Bayless he is extremely creepy but is a good chef. I find his places to be a bit overrated and overpriced. Topo and Frontera Grill are nice if you want to have a good Mexican meal in a more stylish restaurant but if I want real authentic down home Mexican food I head over to Pilsen or hit up some of my other go to mom and pop taquerias. It rubs me the wrong way that the wealthiest and most popular Mexican cuisine chef in the country is a creepy gringo.

If you guys want good radio buy an xm subscription and tune in to mad dog radio 7-11. Dino Costa is the best show in the country right now. He also destroys ESPN and SAS on a regular basis. It's quite entertaining stuff.
