Would a rescheduling at a post-mourning time be more appropriate? Should a first place be given to the winner of a competition instead of as a solace? (The comforted subject did not lose any of its member here, or was involved an heroic act.) Otherwise, how long should this solace last? If the students body is still in shock next year, should they be given yet another first place? I do think they need to be comforted, but give them an honor they did not earn is just not quite a right way to go.
