Was it me or was soliciting unbelievable yesterday? Every 10-15 minutes there was someone in the middle of our tailgate soliciting donations. Three or four well known organizations and I can’t count how many kids’ teams raising money for their trip or for new uniforms. I asked my wife if was an old man screaming at the clouds for being annoyed by the constant interruption, never mind the fact that dropped almost $100!

When I read the title I was thinking some of the new fans were slowing down to ask for directions to the different tailgate parking lots.

When that started happening a lot at high school football games I began carrying lots of ones. Peel off 5-6 then pull 2 out of that, fold it and throw it in the bucket. Nobody really knows what you gave for sure and they are on their way. I got hit for a few 20’s once because I’d just gone to the atm and I quickly learned my lesson. Sounds like you learned your lesson yesterday. I’ve never experienced it at the Rent but I’ll be prepared now. Thanks.

We got hit for $60 for three hats for an organization that works with homeless vets. I honestly didn’t even know if it was a legit organization (I later found that it is). The guy had a badge as did people from the other organizations but that doesn’t mean much. He guy was very pushy and basically stuffed the hats in our hands and then asked for $20 for each. He was good at his job I guess you could say.

I am amazed that these solicitors are still getting donations as many people no longer carry cash. Even inside the RENT the kiosks are basically card only for payment.
I mentioned that a couple of weeks ago to a group & they said that shortly they are going to take payments via Venmo...

The organizations have card readers.

You have to watch who you donate too. I make it a point to always talk to the kids and ask them about their team, position, etc.

You’d be surprised at how many kids just answer with “I don’t play football” and then their parent gets pissed and walks them away.

We've had numerous girls' teams every week...flag football mostly. They have a sign with a Venmo account but it's linked to a person, not an organization. We have donated (at least one or two in our group) every time. Maybe it's legit, maybe we are getting fleeced...but hats off to them either way...playing sports or budding entrepreneurs.

I don't like using Venmo (or CashApp or Zelle or whatever) for donating to organizations/fundraisers I'm not personally familiar with. If I have a couple of bucks on me, I might throw in some for, like, kids selling candy to raise funds, but I almost never carry cash these days anyway.

Also, the pushier people are, the less I'm going to give them money. Just back off if I say no.
