I used to love tennis. It has now become for me one of the most boring sports on TV completely lacking any compelling personalities. Where will the new stars come from?

What tennis are you (not) watching.

On the men's side -- the Federer v. Djokovik matches and rivalry have been great tennis for the past three years. The Australian Open final match went 5 hours and 15 minutes. It was one of the best matches in tennis history. Federer has a "dull" personality, but a masterful game. Djokovik is a fiery personality who plays with great passion and verve.

On the women's side, five different players have won the last five majors. Any one of them can win on any given day. The winner of the Australian Open (defeated Sharapova) was Viktoria Azerenka, a 22 year old from Belarus. She has a wonderful personality. On the court she radiates a love for the game, and great joy in the competition. She is an aggressive player with a broad range of skills; and she has been the best player on the WPA Tour this year. I LOVE watching her play. She has the "good swagger;" and she plays with lots of confidence and a bounce in her step. I think she has the best "personality" of any player that has been on the women's tour in many years. Check her out in her next match.
If you are looking for great American players, there are none on the men's tour right now. On the women's side, Serena can beat the best in the world when she is healthy in body and mind. After Serena, it's slim pickings for really good USA players.

I don't know OC I just don't find them compelling personalities or having compelling stories. I miss Connors-Borg, Borg-McEnroe, Currier-Sampras, Sampras-Agassi, Navratilova-Evert, Monica Seles, Stef Graf, the young Williams sisters. I simply find the present generation to be devoid of personalities and interest.

God help us all, Icebear. You are getting too old to enjoy the present generation of "kids".

All those players you list are old-farts from an earlier century (literally). IIRC, some of them played with wooden rackets.

Yep, heck, I'm old enough to even know how to string the original Wilson T2000.

I preferred Currier and Ives.

same thing about hoops for some fans, stuck on ancient history.

What it lacks are Amercian stars. No one seems willing to put the work in necessary to compete at the game's highest level. The country clubbers have better things to do.

That does seem to be part of it but I have enjoyed many foreign stars, too.
