Lose 6-1 3-6 and 4-6. Won't be watching Breakfast at Wimbledon.

I couldn't believe it! Had to go out after she won the first set in Serena style. Came home and Cornet was shaking hands with her and fist pumping. What happened?

Serena stopped moving her feet. I really think she thought Cornet would fold after Serena walloped her in the first set 6-1. I always root for Serena but was glad to see her lose this match as she can no longer just rely on blasting others off the court. She will need to look at the film to see the plethora of errors she made.

Her presser really lacked class or grace. She must have said about 3 times that Alize played "the game of her life like she was on the ATP tour". And then pointed out these players who beat her go on to play stinkers against other "lesser" players. Really? You don't think that at Wimbledon, (or at the French, Australian, or US Opens) that the players don't give 100% every single match, and then some?

Serena's never had a ton of class in defeat. Venus seems to handle things much better. Maybe it's an older vs younger sister thing.

Serena will go down as perhaps the greatest, most dominating player in women's tennis history and also one of the worst in terms of sportsmanship in women's history

And with Madison Keys pulling out because of an injury, and John Isner losing today, this marks the first time since 1911 that no Americans have made it to the round of 16 at Wimbledon (singles). Meh.

I follow [ a bit] Venus/Serena and Maria Sharapova.
I don't know the etiquette of tennis but Maria's screeching at every stroke
drove me nuts after 2 minutes. Do other players object to that? Can the referee impose penalties?
Other players do it as well but they are walk-on screamers compared to Maria's all-american status.

Sportsmanship, history wise, is overrated. John McEnroe has as great a profile now as he ever did as a player. Then again, the standards/parameters may be different for Ms Williams.

It was scary watching Serena today. They are saying "virus" but I am not convinced.

She looked drunk or high; the "virus" explanation doesn't feel legit.

I don't think she was high or drunk. I think this was a severe medical occurrence of some sort. But with the Williams sisters' tendency to be very private we may never know.

I am diabetic and it reminded me of how my body reacts when my blood sugar level is very low.

I'm sad seeing Sharapova go... but I love watching her leave. ;)

I'm intrigued to see Nadal go. A qualifer makes the men's QF! Everyone loves that guy, too. Maybe my tennis lord and savior Roger Federer has one more, just one more, Slam in him? Pretty please?

Andy Roddick spoke about it on fOXSPORTS. He said that he is friends with Serena and immediately texted her. He said that Serena said she will be undergoing tests in the next two days and will find out what happened. My problem through all of this was Venus' reaction. If that's my sister I am stunned and say let's get you to the doctor right now and leave the court. I watched online and that was just bizarre. I have never seen anything like that. I know she broke up with her coach/boyfriend at the beginning of the year but he is still her coach but not her boyfriend. Seems like a whole lot of drama going on. Serena had such an awesome year last year and this year seems strange. It may be time to take a page out of Steffi Graf's book and leave when your on top. I do hope that her health is OK because what I saw yesterday was not right.

I agree. It also could have been a reaction to medication she may have been taking. I just don't understand how she was allowed to get on the court to begin with. It was the chair umpire who finally put an end to the match. Wasn't there anyone in her camp who could have prevented this ? After all, she was examined by a doctor for 15 minutes before the match started. They knew something was wrong.

The fact that the doctors and Venus didn't demand that Serena leave the court immediately was what struck me as strange. If they had left during warmups there would not be so much media coverage. Also the fact that Pam Shriver and Chris Evert mentioned drug testing during the broadcast didn't help. I really hope this isn't more than a "virus'. Serena has had such a great career and I would hate to see another health scare for her. Also right about how the low sugar level mimicked that behavior regarding diabetes.

I was not sad to see Sharapova go. I hate the screaming! Can you imagine a basketball player screaming that loudly every time she dribbles the ball and how irritating that would be. It makes her hard to like. The same with Nadal picking his ass several hundred times a match.

I do hope that Roger takes this tourney but after watching Dimitrov and Kyrgios blasting these serves it is hard to imagine that Roger could survive that, assuming he can get by Wawrinka, who I think he has an advantage on on grass.

I was really angered by Chris mentioning drug testing. I thought that was completely inappropriate. Then they kept talking about her "mental" state, as if she was having a nervous breakdown on the court.

Venus should have said "you cannot play." Serena was obviously not in any condition to make a sensible decision on her own.
