He's suffering from a psychiatric disorder.

From the AP story - "Sandusky's lawyers are arguing that he suffers from histrionic personality disorder. It's defined by the American Psychiatric Association's diagnostic manual as "a pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking" that is "often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior" and rapidly shifting emotions."

He just couldn't help himself. He needs a little treatment in rehab and then everything will be OK.

Disgusting! The testimony of these young men is sickening!! I cannot imagine having to be the attorney that defends this vile man.

A Google search doesn't show that sufferers of the condition are more likely to be compelled towards child abuse, in fact, it seems that depression is the major concern. Sandusky may have a histrionic personality disorder but my research (admittedly limited in depth) doesn't show that it would have overwhelmed him to the point where he couldn't stop himself from raping and abusing his victims.

Sandusky and his attorneys are desperate to come up with some kind of defense. However, I doubt very much that a defense of histrionic personality disorder will sway the jury; I certainly hope not.

That was pretty much the conclusion of experts on the "condition". My post was intended to be a sarcastic jab at those who try to excuse inexcusable behavior by placing blame on a condition not on an individual. It's one thing to identify and label the cause of bad behavior, my problem is with those that consider it mitigating.

Typical of modern American society. Nothing is anyone's fault. We're all just sick really.
"Accountability" has been stricken from the dictionary.

I agree 100%

"Chutzpah" redefined once again.

The most popular definition of this invaluable Yiddish word: "The boy who murders his parents, then throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan."

The Sandusky defense is right up there.

NBC hides Damning Sandusky Interview - Link

Don't know what to think about this story. Don't understand what motive NBC or Costa would have to edit out a statement that on the surface appears that Sandusky admits his guilt. Any1 have any thoughts?

Huh? That, may be a defense attorney's argument, but it's evidently not very persuasive.

The U.S., with under 5% of the world's population, has nearly 25% of the world's prison population. The rate of incarceration is easily the highest, with Russia and South Africa the not-very-close runners-up.

Which suggests modern American society holds plenty of people accountable.

Sandusky stands to add to that track record.

I heard that interview. I kept waiting for Sandusky's denial but it never came. He did indeed come off as a really creepy guy. His tone of voice and matter of fact responses were really odd. I remember my first thought after the interview was that "this guy is going to eat a gun."

Is nbc still on the air??? They ceased to be relevant years ago, when they decided that they would report THEIR side of the news, instead of reporting the actual news as it is...JMO...

One significant problem is this defense borders on admitting the crime. It may well become impossible for the jury to draw any line saying he never touched or abused the boys and in doing so guarantee a guilty verdict. The post trial argument may become adequacy of counsel for taking such a wild defense.

And what network or cable outfit, in your opinion, reports the actual news as it is?

Defense attorneys have been using the defenses available to them forever. Reminds me of one of my favorite movies:

Cheat sheet:
Renee Zellweger - Roxy Hart, a married bad girl that shot her boyfriend
Richard Gere - the defense attorney
Christine Baranski - the gullible reporter, Miss Sunshine

I'm just wondering whether or not he will be alive when it comes time to take him to jail. I would not be at all surprised if he gets a sentence of 30+ years, and I don't see him as the kind of guy that would last very long in prison especially with all the notoriety of this case.

Rather, I see him as the kind of guy that would take a bunch of sleeping pills.

Men in prison do not like rapists or child abusers. People that are convicted of such crimes have a very bad time of it in prison. Hence the fact that Hayes and Komarsjevsky are kept separate from the general population.

As a side note, one should at least be "glad" that his attorneys are mounting a vigorous defense. Imagine of they mailed it in, got a guilty verdict, only to be overturned because his lawyers didn't do their jobs.

I don't deny the guy is sleaze and needs to rot in prison, but i want to see him stay there, not get out because his atty's were disgusted as well...

Well I've heard a lot of people, I think, confused on this. I believe this is account for the letters and notes he wrote, not for any acts he still says he didn't commit.
