>>Hobbs also served as interim athletic director at Seton Hall from 2010-11 and immediately steering a new direction for the Pirates. Hobbs, who replaced Joe Quinlan, quickly firing men's basketball coach and never-ending headache Bobby Gonzalez, and pushing out women's basketball Phyllis Mangina.<<

He said "mangina."

The Hobbs appointment makes sense to me. Having a lawyer on stand by in the athletic department at Rutgers has to be a real time saver.

So now it's really on Barchi I figure. Let's see how this works out. An interim AD for one year at Seton Hall is about to take over a B1G AD and hire a football coach.

What comes after derailed and burning garbage train?

Everything that I have read about Hobbs to date from the local press is that he is a problem solver ranging from Seton Hall to the Port Authority (Bridgegate) and he has political connections to Governor Christie. But, his resume has one glaring omission - no D1 college football experience. To me, this reads as a damage control hire and if Dobbs hires a football coach like an Edsall, who has a reputation for running relatively 'clean' programs while being so-so with respect to wins and losses, that's exactly what this is. Dobbs is bring brought in to fix the mess that Rutgers is in and to keep things from getting worse under Barchi and Christie over the next 2 years, which is when NJ will get a new Governor and the merger between Rutgers and UMDNJ will be complete. Once done, Barchi, who was brought into to specifically manage the merger, will be ride off into the sunset and a new President will come on board who will likely bring a new AD.
