I have a 36 year old slant fin GG-100 boiler and a 21 year old hot water tank. Natural gas and baseboard hot water heating. I've lived in the house for 8 years and have not spent any money on the system other than inspections/tune-ups every other year. I had a home energy assessment done and the assessor identified that my boiler is very inefficient (has declined over the past couple of years) and CO is not venting as well as it should. I am setting up a few plumbing/HVAC guys to come in and give their input. I'd like to consider a combo unit - any thoughts, experiences with recent replacements/installs?

A combi boiler is more efficient, cheaper to run, cheaper to install, takes up less space, but you can't run two showers at once, if you have an issue with your boiler you will also lose your water, and you are reliant upon the the main pressure for your shower/faucets etc. I also researched this for my mothers condo, she lives alone and the combi has been a perfect choice for her. It's not for everyone.

Combo has been wonderful and haven't run out of hot water except when i needed a new element
