OT: Remembering July 6, 1944: The Hartford Circus Fire

The Hartford Circus Fire ~ July 6, 1944

My brother, then age 6, was badly burned and trampled. Though in critical condition, he managed to survive and has had a very full life. His mother tragically perished.

My mom always talked about the fire as if it happened the day before(was actually a few months before I was born). We had a family friend who - as a fire fighter - was badly burned during the blaze.
'Course - for years - a member of the West Haven Rotary Club - placed flowers on the grave of one of the (was it unidentified?) victims on behalf of the Florist Group..

I believe that a young girl was never identified or claimed. She's known only by a number. A very sad story.
