Today is one Mr. Alan Freed's birthday (1921). The father of Rock-n-Roll. He was last brought down by the Payola scandal and died and early death at 43 (rock-n-roll you know).

In his honor let's see if we can come up with songs with "Rock and roll" or "rock" in the title. We'll see how cool you guys are here. (not holding my breath).

I'll start....Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin

Disk jockey Alan Freed is widely credited with coining the term “rock and roll” to describe the uptempo black R&B records he played as early as 1951 on Cleveland radio station WJW. What is the first Rock and Roll record? Difficult to say, here is one candidate, Ike Turner's 1951 release, Rocket 88

Then there was:

First, the jukebox in this video is a Wurlitzer model 1015, aka the Bubbler. Since jukeboxes weren't made during the war, this was one of the first produced after the war, (1946-48), it played 24 78 rpm records. Coincidentally, I have one in my living room.

Second, although this is a great song and video, it has forever been ruined for me by Weird Al Yankovic

Nicely done video. This gives all kinds of "rock". Should be good for you oldies.
