How did you like it? Where did you stay? Which areas did you visit?

Old San Juan is amazing! I can't give you any help on where to stay, as I was on a schooner. My husband was there years ago with the UCONN swimming and diving team as the diving coach. They stayed at the National training center. It was way out by the rain forests. Have fun!

We stayed on the south coast in an all inclusive resort, golf course etc etc and it was great. Close enough to hit San Juan too. Definitely do the rainforest walk (er "soak"). But, as with anywhere, there are places you should not venture, night or day. Some aren't obvious so as the concierge or other knowledgeable source. For example, we jinty'd to a horse riding facility on resort and while the rest of the family rode, I decided to walk back to our place through the golf course. They ended up sending out multiple security people to find me. Seems that bandits will come out of the surrounding hills and rob people on the golf course. Won't find that one in the brochures!

Have been there a number of times... Stayed in the center of Old San Juan once at El Convento, a truly wonderful hotel. Also stayed on the beach in San Juan at the Caribe Hilton, another nice place with multiple swimming pools and a very nice beach and a casino... Be sure to spend some time at the rain forest, El Yunque and the beaches of Rio Grande on the Atlantic Ocean side. The south side of the island is also nice but totally different as it is on the Caribbean.

BTW, throw out all your North American ideas about time while in old San Juan. I remember that it is definitely a bit of Spain in the New World with afternoon siestas and closed shops. Prime time in the restaurants in the evening is 9PM and many restaurants don't start serving until 8PM.

Stopped in PR on a cruise was there for only a day but enjoyed it very much. The Bacardi factory tour was good if you are a drinker and a good time to start if you are not. The Fort tours are pretty good. We were tipped of by some fellow passengers to a place on a mountain side neer San Juan where the take pig roasting to a new level, but we never made it there.

Luquillo Beach, water is so salty you don't even have to move to stay afloat. Was in PR many, many years ago and enjoyed it, but time changes many things. Many interesting things to do and places to visit, but ask before you visit any place. Is La Concha hotel still there? That was the place to stay at the time.
