I think the editorial is hard on the medical community. It is true that some doctors make their living writing prescriptions, but very many are all too aware of the addiction syndrome and fight patients in desperate need of pain abatement because of federal monitoring of pain medication prescribing. Then there is a whole different class of doctors who decide to protect their arse by under prescribing pain meds to dying patients; yes, a whole 'nother breed of animal. Complex issue. The enablers around the entertainment industry giants will always be there, following the money. The whole society gets hurt by the example, if that is the word, set by that industry and it's super star addicts.
