OT Poll Super Bowl Should be Played on

Would the Super Bowl get a larger TV audience, be more friendly to fans, especially kids if it were played other then Sunday Night. Would restaurants, bars etc benefit more if the game was played at a different time?

The Super Bowl is the most watched and successful event in American sports by orders of magnitude. The only the thing that causes variance in viewership is the teams involved. Last years Packers-Steelers matchup was the most watched of all time. They've been kicking off a little after 6:00 ET since at least the 80s, and I don't think it's hurt the NFL's audience one iota. Not sure what your concern is. Moreover, networks continue to (very successfully) premier shows after the Super Bowl.

Now, if you want to talk about a major sporting event that needs to re-think how it broadcasts its championship event(s), baseball and the World Series would be one to consider.

The concern isn't really Super Bowl viewership but the zero productivity on Monday as workers all over America drag themselves into work and spend the day talking about the Super Bowl, collecting the money they won, and wondering why they didn't call in sick.

I have long contended that the Monday after the SB should be a national holiday. Let's accept reality.

Well Sat is definitely out. It is the lowest TV viewing night of all. They would never put it on there. I think Sunday nights are one of the highest viewing nights (even without Super Bowl).

They pretty much know what they are doing with the scheduling.

I think they could show the Super Bowl at 3 a.m., and the fan base wouldn't be much reduced. The parties would be going on. Somehow the NFL and TV have turned Super Sunday into the holiest day of the year. That so many people tell me that they watch for the commercials is quite a commentary on American culture, but there are enough fanatic football teams to assure that the game will be watched whenever it's on.

When I was a kid the World Series got almost as much attention (relative to the population and TV/radio technology of those years), but MLB managed to ruin a good thing with too many teams and selling out to TV (and the weird times the games are played). Baseball just doesn't have that one game super magnetism that makes the Super Bowl as special as it is.

As for me, if the Super Bowl goes past 9 p.m, I'll be watching "Downton Abbey" on PBS.
