Way off topic but an interesting read with a great slideshow.

Football's Costly Turnovers

College coaches often have the biggest houses in town—and they need to move frequently. The result? Plenty on the market for the buyer who wants a home with a putting green, wet bar and stuffed alligator head.

It's hard to believe PP lives such a grand life and is so mediocre at overall coaching.

A number of schools have gone to providing the coach with a house as part of their compensation package. It eliminates them having to buy the big house and then sell it a few years later. It also allows them to provide the type of entertaining property they need. First place I heard of it was UCLA where they had trouble attracting candidates due to the cost of local housing.

There is a market rate for these coaches, and then there's an "out-of-my-mind" rate. Take Mack Brown: Texas wants to pay him $5.5m per year. No other school in the country has any interest in paying that guy that much money. He was mediocre coach at best at UNC, and then he goes to the most talent rich state with the least competition for recruits, and he wins 1 NC. They give him a huge raise even though no one is competing with them for his services. Back when Brown made $4.5m a year, no one was going to steal him for $5m.

Wow, I can't believe RR was living in Saline. AA is a small enough town as it is, and even the Governor lives there. It's not like you need to avoid the limelight by moving out to a fake town built around a man-made lake. AA has plenty of space for ducking away from the crowds.
