Nearly twenty years after the whole UConn ballyhoo, another similar record at Cal State Dominguez Hills: LINK HERE

"Prior to tonight's game at Chico State, the Wildcats showed the class that has come to embody the program by taking part in a prearranged and agreed upon demonstration of sportsmanship for the injured Lee, allowing her to score an uncontested basket in the game's opening seconds, making her the school's all-time leading scorer."

I always appreciated Harry and Geno's allowing Nykesha to take that basket 18 years ago, almost to the day. When sports transcend mere wins and losses is when, I think, they represent the best of humanity. I do wonder if there will be the same hue and cry there was after that 1998 UConn-Villanova game.

Monay Lee played HS ball with KLS at Edison HS when Lou was a freshman(KLS transferred to Mater Dei for the rest of her HS years). She also played for Cal Swish, I believe also with KLS and her sister Karlie.

I never had a problem with what Geno and Harry did, and I am really happy for this player as well. It has no effect on anything except the school record book and it really is no business of anyone's except the team, the opponent and their coach, and the former record holder. If it is OK with them, then it is a great show of respect for an injured player who has given their all to their program.

Agree, I thought it was great when it happened. Really didn't expect the fallout afterwards. Geno didn't either.

Perhaps I am a contrarian, but I think it was wrong for Sales and wrong today. Totally agree that it is a kind act. No doubt about that, but the record was not earned. What if the unthinkable happens and Stewie falls one block short of Lobo's record? Gonna make a deal for two swats? KLS needs one three to break KML's record? Of course not. Yeah it is a nice story. I just think records lose meaning when you can fudge them. I would not have looked upon Sales' career any less if she had one less hoop. And for the record, I don't blame either athlete. The people in charge should be responsible for maintaining the integrity of a record. My $.02.

I would feel that way about a national or a state record, but a school record is all in the family and is a family matter. How would you feel if Geno left Stewart in an extra five minutes in a blow out so she could record an extra block to break the record? Couldn't he have previously done the same for Lobo so she could extend the record further out of reach. With Uconn records so much comes down to minutes played in uncompetitive games. Personally I would have liked to see him leave Stewart in for a few more minutes when she was a rebound and two assist short of a quadruple double (or whatever the missing stats were.) I didn't want him to leave her in for the rest of the game, but a few more minutes wouldn't have been egregious.
Or how would you feel if Moriah is tied with DT for assists and she has a break away in the waning minutes of her last game and instead of scoring, waited for a trailing player to pass the ball to - did she earn it or did she taint it by contriving an additional assist outside the standards of normal competition?

Thanks for your reply. To your first question. Wouldn't matter if coach leaves Stewie in to break a record. No bargaining with the opposing coach for that plus, if she got it, she would have got it honestly. With Respect to MoJeff, I'd say she earned it because it was based on an in-game decision. No cheating or off-court shenanigans would have been involved.

And yet I and a lot of other people had some pretty strong feelings about Paris' record double double streak at OK which was kept alive a few times by leaving her in until the last second of blow-out wins so she could get the necessary basket or rebound. It seemed just as contrived to me as these baskets, but it was a national record not a school record. the one thing Sheri has done that I don't approve of.
