Found a very good hotel deal the weekend before Thanksgiving in Newport, so my wife and I are heading down there for the first time in a decade.

Send over your recs! Bonus points for dinner options where two tired teachers can wear their sweats.

I'll be in Newport Friday stuck in the Marriott for a conference. I will be looking forward to hitting the Tilted Barn Brewery in Exeter on the way home.

Diego's is a Mexican joint that has been there for years. I would write it down.

I live in North Kingstown across the bay.

Won’t give you food ideas but recommend seeing the Bit Players (Whose Line is It style improv troupe) at the Firehouse Theatre.

It’s hilarious, cheap, and BYOB.

And you can wear sweats.

One of mine and Mrs RIs favorite date nights.

Just about every place in downtown Newport has good food. Our favorites are the Red Parrot and Brick Alley , but honestly just about any place you sit down will do.

Please don't wear your sweats out to eat anywhere.

I thought The Mooring was good as a casual spot. White Horse Tavern for something a bit more special, due to the history of the place. the Dueling Pianos Bar at the top of Pelham is not recommended.

My older sister went to URI for a few years before transferring to UConn and Brick Alley was the spot my mom would take us out for lunch when we'd visit together.
Are teachers any more tired than anyone else?

Just having fun, guys.

Had my first and only Beef Wellington at the White Horse Tavern. Not really a sweats place, though. However, solidarity in your tired teacher vibe.
Same here! A birthday dinner!

I would assume your good deal on the hotel is because of the weather so I'd be overprepared there. I've gone at times where the wind whips off that water so bad we ran from door to door and it was miserable outside. Overprep for that just in case.

We are in Newport 4x/year, including the offseason (my favorite time to be there). I could write you a book of recos, but I’ll just leave you with two relatively cheap (for Newport) non-fancy lunch spots in Middletown (both places about 7 minutes from America’s Cup Way downtown).

Bottega Boconi - great casual Italian sandwiches, pastas and beverages. Casual spot, wonderful owners, clean and chill vibe. Order at the counter and grab a window seat.

Anthony’s Seafood for fish and chips - it’s a fresh fish store. Anything you buy off the prepared food menu will be fresh.
