Looks like they're trying to go with something a little more....Irish...

As much as I hate ND, their logo is an artistic masterpiece.

Their nickname came into being when Fielding Yost of Michigan was defeated by Notre Dame and after the game he said, "those Irish are good". I somehow doubt all the players were Irish Catholics. Would have to research that but don't feel like it.
