Men's basketball as definitely taken a hit with the loss of Pitt, Cuse and WV, but the football side of the ledger has significantly gotten better.

The BE won't be insanely great in basketball. But it should still be very good. And who knows, maybe Pitt and Cuse head the way BCU did and some of the new BE teams get very good.

The value to all this is that there could be a decent contract from the media next season, and that will help UConn athletics. Furthermore without Cuse, UConn can continue to rack up BE awards and make the orange an after thought.

There's always a silver lining right?

I enjoy your optimism.

I've learned they won't be joining in football until 2014 at the earliest.

After last season, where no one was really giving UConn a chance for a final four appearance, never mind an NC, I feel I can afford to be flakey.

As much as I cringed (and I guess, on some level, continue to) as time went on and UConn stayed put ... the basketball teams coming could be much worse. I'd much rather see those C-USA teams than some A-10 junk. And who knows ... joining the BEast may boost these teams up.

Soldiers (are they soldiers?) can now play in a BCS league and still serve our country. I would also think that this is a great recruiting tools for good athletes that want to serve in the armed forces yet play against top competition. Good for Navy and BE football!

Now how do you cheer against Navy without feeling unpatriotic?

Did I unintenionally insult Sailors? Also Even though I knew the differences/definitions I thought a soldier was one that fights irrespective of the armed service, so Thanks! Is a Navy Seal just called a Seal or they in a way soldiers? Also do marines mind being called soldiers? I know they are first in battle, but do they feel somewhat insulted by being called soldiers. Obviously I never served (but was an air force brat) so I'd like to be respectful especially in this season of war. Thanks to you Vets!

Every Marine I've ever worked with would be insulted to be called a soldier.

The above post hit it on the head with the correct terminology for each branch of service.

As for SEALs, they are Sailors at their core, but most specialty groups within each branch have nicknames for their particular skills.

Do not under any circumstances call them sir- if they call you "sir" tell them " I work for a living".

It was not that long ago when TCU was on board, UCF and Houston were favored due to markets and Philly was inevitable (Temple or Nova.)

UCF, Houston and Philly are still in the mix

I don't see SDSU and SMU as replacements for all-sports SU and Pitt.

Boise for all-sports WVU? Navy for all-sports TCU?

It's what it is. It will work out.

► In the movie Charade Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant are walking in front of the US embassy in Paris when
Audrey spots a squared away guard in his dress uniform. She says: "look at the pretty soldier". He replies (in horror)
"that's no soldier ... it's a Marine!"

► Seals are sailors, period.
