OT: National Dog Day (August 26) Your favorite kinds are?

Here’s Hagrid again ( see page 1). Another year older, a bit more inquisitive, a lot more expensive as we are 9 weeks in to rehabbing the dreaded ACL tear. Apparently bigger breeds are more prone. ( This is well before the ACL tear). View attachment 45890
I’m sure all of you take good care of your pets and know how expensive vet care can be. After some big expenses I started getting pet insurance and have found it to be a good investment. Most policies have exclusions for preexisting conditions so it’s a good idea to consider getting a policy when they’re young and healthy. I’ve been using Pets Best and have found them to be easy to work with.

Ballpark or Oscar Mayer, with a little ketchup & mustard.
You’re dead to me! To restate one of Dirty Harry Callahan lines from Sudden Impact- "Nah, that doesn't bother me, but you know what does bother me? What? You know what makes me sick to my stomach? What? It's watching you stuff your face with those hot dogs. Nobody, I mean NOBODY puts ketchup on a hot dog!
I need to get that line engraved and hung up by my barbeque pit!

I have owned “ mutts”, 6 Great Danes ( 4 harlequins, a Merle and a brindle). Then 2 St Bernard’s a shelter German Shepherd mix breed and now I am owned by a female American Staffordshire Terriare ( Pit Bull). One of the most caring, lovable dog who adores people but hates other animals.
2 of the Harlies have championships. They are such clowns.

Cute beagle. I gotta say you are covering all your bases with your profile pic. Davidson didn't last long, on to Charlotte. Is there any team from North Carolina you don't root for (other than those ruffians from Chapel Hill of course)?

I root for them all to do well.... especially in the conference tournaments. Of course I root for Duke the hardest.... followed by the schools in my city/county... HPU, UNCG and NCA&T. Keeping with the dog theme... A&T's mascot is a bulldog.... perhaps I'll email their AD about getting a live bulldog to roam the sidelines during the game..... what can go wrong with a live bulldog

Bernese Mountain Dog & American Standard Poodle?

Yes

How much does he weight?

He’s still just a puppy, 7 months old, but around 55-60 lbs.

Has every breed known to man been cross bred with poodles to create a new breed? I remember when labradoodles were popular. Now there seem to be a limitless variety of doodles.

I used to show and breed Coton de Tulear. Now I operate a small groom shop, so the breeds I adore are the ones who visit regularly and are well behaved.

Some people want to avoid shedding by breeding to a poodle--which produces a puppy with hair, not fur-- so I imagine that's part of the appeal. My eight Golden Retrievers shed all over the house but I consider that as small price to pay for the love and devotion they offer me.

Our dog Aspen, he is fast approaching 13

My photo is of my former lab, who passed last year at 14, and my current dog - a now 5 year old labradoodle. My next dog will be a rescue dog, but I love my fur babies.

True dog lovers know all our babies want to do is love us, and be part of our pack. Kudos to everyone who enjoys that kind of relationship!

Clint says it’s a disgusting habit and I agree with him. Mustard=Hot Dogs; Ketchup =Hamburgers and do not mix the two!

I tried not to go on a food tangent, but you guys forced my hand... Ketchup on a hamburger is another no-no in my household (of one).....The only thing ketchup is good for is to occasionally use on french fries, shredded hash browns, or home fries. Even then, mayo, tartar sauce, ranch, or thousand island dressing is preferable

That law may hold for those posh and proper enough to indulge in it, but...
Once upon a time, long away and far ago....
There was a student—yo mismo, a.k.a., me, myself—who barely had two buffalo nickels to rub together. He was hungry. There was a White Castle, purveying what they called 'hamburgers', assortd mystery meat and varied insect and rodent body parts, at the princely sum of 17¢ apiece. To avoid serious offense to the taste buds, those fine delicacies were doused in ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, salt and pepper. Even under all those culinary disguises, White Castle burgers were gagworthy. But it was food, it was Baltimore, it was cold and damp, and your scribe was a poor grad student.

Yeah, mustard and ketchup mix well at times. Context is everything.

Today, I limit toppings to good dark mustard and horseradish on burgers, and save the ketchup for steak fries. The limey side of the family infects everything with mayo, so they are hors de combat.

I was gonna say, “Man, do you have a lot of issues” but then I saw a mirror and, well, you know, “pot, kettle...” I will just say I did have a couple of real live dogs when I was a kid growing up, a Collie and a little mutt that I don’t think we ever did find out what kind he was. Mostly I remember the whiffle ball games in my back yard and me stepping in their.... trying to catch a batted ball far too many times than I wanted to remember. I guess I just proved my point.

You had me up to that point.....

the only thing good on Hash Browns is Tony Cachere.

I admit it has always been ketchup and mustard on hamburgers but I have lately switched to mayochup

Yea, that is one of the wrongest things there is. Head bang

I don't know that it's my favorite breed, but we got a Dandie Dinmont as a rescue years ago and he is the sweetest dog imaginable. They are not easy to find, but fun to look at.

Do not presently have a dog. But best dog we ever had was a Norwegian Elkhound. Very smart, did some Lassie saving life stuff.

This is a stock photo, ours (Buffy) was actually buff/tan colored.

Years ago we had a neighbor who owned an elkhound who lived by a school bus stop. She used to steal the kids lunches. A sweet dog never the less.
