From the On the Fly section of the Hartford Courant: "The Baltimore Sun is among the media outlets reporting that New Haven sophomore tight end Mike Flacco, Brother of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, will declare for the NFL draft. Mike had nine TD catches this season." Hmm: Division 2, sophomore, Nepotism, immaturity. Yeah, he's sure to be a top 5 pick.

He is 26 years old. Played minor league baseball for years. If a team gives him a shot, it will be because they think he has raw talent that can be developed. It won't be because he's Joe's brother.

Nepotism at the player level doesn't work like on the coaching level. Kyle Shannahan had a job because of his father, Mike. Meanwhile, the other two Gronkowskis not named Robert don't know if they'll have a job from week to week. Players have to earn it more. He probably goes undrafted and catches on with Baltimore for training camp. The ravens have a couple NFL caliber TE's already on their roster, including Pitta who was out last year with an injury. Chances are he ends up on a practice squad or an Insurance office.

For what its worth, every year I also declare myself eligible for the draft.

Can't see any NFL team wasting a draft pick on pure nepotism. If he wants to be an undrafted free agent (which is what he will most likely be) he has to declare.

Coach - what's the nepotism angle?
