On a road trip right now and stopped in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a few days visiting a friend. Toured Tiger Stadium which was amazing, LSU had a surprisingly pretty campus. Beyond that, Baton Rouge was hands down the worst place I've ever visited. Anyone else ever been? Is the rest of Louisiana that bad? Very bizarre place

I have very close friends and family there. I've been goin there for about 20 years. I mostly likely will see the first 2 home games for LSU. It is definitely different than a lot of places and not as friendly as I had hoped.

Did it leave you with a negative impression though? I got in a car accident there and am trying to keep that from coloring my impression too much, but I just felt like I had an overwhelmingly negative impression of the city. Was surprised at the lack of good restaurants, bars, etc

My people down there want me to move there but too many reasons not too. I would say yes it has I visit them and LSU sports and the Saints, fishing and other things are great but it's way over crowded and not near friendly enough for me.

Was born there and grew up there. I love to visit family and go to LSU games, but Baton Rouge sucks. Strip malls, rampant crime, terrible public schools....I am so lucky my parents moved us to Connecticut when we were still young. I am far more educated than I would have been.

The food is good though. Worst place you've ever visited? Really? I've been to Iowa and Missouri, so it's not at the top of my list of worst places.

I found the entire state to be depressing, even NOLA. Glad I visited just to say I had, but never will go back if I can help it.

Where were you and what places did you go to? Downtown BR is the pits and not where anyone wants to go. Problem with BR is that everything is spread out, and you need to know what places to go. Go to Sammy's, City Pork, The Chimes, and you'll enjoy yourself. These places are all miles from each other though, thanks to the sprawl.

I have lived in Baton Rouge for 33 years. I have spent lots of times in the places you mention, especially the old Chimes by LSU and Sammy's on Highland.

When I retire, I hope to move to Colorado. I will not miss the bugs, heat, humidity, etc.....

BR is the worst. Did you happen to drive all the way through LSU to the 3rd world ghetto right behind it? I just moved from there after 8 months of hell on earth. It is the stupidest place on earth. I lived right off perkins 2 mi from LSU. Louisiana is the worst state in the union.

The food is horrible. Jax is lying. You must lie to yourself to live there.

looked at it in Google Streetview - looks like Compton. Bars on windows in a residential neighborhood = not a good sign.

North of LSU is an absolute ghetto. That said, huskyinfl doesnt know what hes talking about or only went to restaraunts. There are some fine places in Baton Rouge. If nothing else, the crawfish boils in the spring are woth trying. I can 100% understand how an outsider would think it was a horrible place to live though.

My in-laws live in Baton Rouge. Two things about Louisiana:

1) Half of the state doesn't work; they're at home collecting disability of some kind.
2) Every family is a candidate for the Jerry Springer Show.

Nope, just a world traveler & a person that moves every 18 months for work. Chimes sucks, mansurs is ok, red zepplin sucks, fluer de lis, pizza is a joke in br, laginappe, parrains avg at best. Tried to hit everything since the illusion is BR is a food mecca. It isnt, plus poor service on top of it. By the way Compton is too nice of a comparison 1/27 chance of being a victim of crime there 1/19 in BR.

BR is just broken in every aspect and it's sad because it's so backwards and self sabotaging.

My house was on "high ground" at 39.1 feet above sea level. We were on an island with flood waters surrounding us (the area nearby is at 28 feet above sea level).

We lost power for a little while but were fortunate to not have flood waters in our house. Our son's new house had 3-4 feet of water. My daughter had to evacuate her second story condo and was a refugee for six day.

85% of the homes and businesses in nearby Livingston Parish were under eight feet of water for about 4 days. Tens of thousands of homes were under water in about 8 Parishes in Southeast Louisiana.

This was a 500 year flood event, the worst flood in Louisiana history (which has a long history of floods).

My sister-in-law's home in Denham Springs is under 6 feet of water, but she has flood insurance.

My son didn't live in the 100 year flood zone, so he didn't have flood insurance. This was a five hundred year flood event, it had not happened since the French first settled here.

I heard an estimate on the local news coverage of the flooding that 80% of the people whose home's flooded did not have flood insurance.
