Baylor only 2 for 13 from 3pts, 15%. 12 for 20 on free throws, 60%

Griner shooting FT to end the game, 8 for 10.

56-51 Baylor?

That was an ugly performance by Baylor. Griner 4-15 from the floor but 8-10 from the FT line plus 14 rebs, 5 assists and 6 blocks. Not a great shooting night but still a good overall night.

Williams with 16 and 10.

Baylor has some vulnerability, but is anyone good enough to take advantage of it and actually pull out a win?

I hate playing Texas Tech. They always play Baylor well.

I actually had not even seen the UCONN results until the Baylor game had ended. Conference games are tough. A win is a win, I guess.

they have the wrath of the barn castle incident to amp them up for playing us, at least until she graduates or Griner does.

Yes.
And while it is great motivation, I often wish both sides could put it behind them. It was two years ago. Fans on both sides may feed that fire for the next 20 years, or it could be gone when Griner and Barncastle are gone.

Griner still POY?

Of course: 18 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks and 5 assists. Maybe this stat line answers your question.

Griner shot 36% tonight and Nneka shot 40%. Is that why you are pulling out this inane question again? The fact that Nneka has one SLIGHTLY better shooting night? Griner still has a better shooting percentage than Nneka for the year at 61% to 53%. Even with my Texas education math, that's still 8% better for the year. And that includes Nneka playing against a bunch of patsies in the PAC 12, which is really a PAC 2.

Nneka has 21 blocks to Griner's 146. THAT stat is the difference maker when it comes to POY. Maybe you don't realize that defense is also part of the equation.

Keep hoping...but it ain't happening.

It is motivation for Texas Tech and it will be until those who were on the floor that night are all gone. It is the type of event that results in a great rivalry.

Many Baylor fans feel that Curry purposely sent her players on the court to get rough with Griner. As long as Curry is still at TT I suspect that the hatred between the two schools will continue. Or maybe it is because Curry is trying to compete with Mulkey when it comes to sideline histrionics. Another battle that she will lose.

Hmmm....Bears and Cardinals duking it out on a husky board. Is this your chosen "neutral ground" for your POY discussions??

I know it Griner will get it, but I think Nneka is more overall talented player. Being tall is nice and help with blocks, but I think Nneka does more.

That is like saying that Nneka's rebounding skills don't count because she is a better leaper than her opponents. It's like someone saying, well, Nneka can jump higher and if she couldn't she wouldn't get so many rebounds. Usain Bolt has an unfair advantage because he is faster than everyone else. It is part of their physical makeup. I am not sure that you can expect a 6-8 player who wears a size 17 men's shoe to have better footwork that an agile 6-2 player.

BG is definitely a more effective player because she is tall. That is typically a trait of great post players throughout history. Would Lisa Leslie have been as effective had she been 6-2 or 6-3 instead of 6-5? Of course not. Height in basketball makes a big difference. Would Tina Charles be as effective at 6-2 instead of 6-4? Like Geno said in the European tour, if you are not going to use Griner for her height you might as well have another 6-2 player on the court.

Is BG better overall because she is tall? Absolutely! That's basketball. Does Nneka have better footwork and does she move better? Absolutely. But we are talking about effectiveness, not who has more overall skill. I played high school basketball and could shoot three pointers better than most people on the team but I got no playing time because I was short and slow. Therefore, just because I was more skilled at something didn't make me more effective than others. But I will say that Nneka is not a better shooter than Griner. Griner hits a lot of very difficult shots from the 10 foot range with 3 players hanging on her.

Griner is the only player in basketball that opponents have to change their entire offensive and defensive gameplans for. She may not have as many skills as the other two, but the ones that she does have are SO effective that it makes her the best player in the country and one of the best in the world.

Do this. Put these two on the court for a one on one game. Who do you think would win? My money would be on Griner.

Nneka. She has an outside shot and many more moves than Griner. Nneka also has 2-3 people on her.

Moves are great but not being able to get your shot off is tough to overcome. As far as moves, Griner has an unstoppable hook with both hands, can turn over either shoulder on her jumper and had developed a beautiful spin on the baseline. But like Geno told her, develop two or three moves and perfect them. She doesn't need as many moves. The ones she has are unstoppable.

We obviously both think our player is the better player. And both are great players. Maybe we'll get to see them play in the NCAA tourney.

Hopefully Nneka's shooting percentage will improve so that the discussion of who is the better shooter will have more relevance. Nneka has a lower shooting percentage and averages fewer points. I'm still waiting on some sort of evidence that she is a more effective offensive player.
